ORGANISERS of the World Firefighters
Games in Korea in August want all
Australian firefighters to join them.
To be held in Daegu from August 21-29,
the Games will attract around 10,000 par-
ticipants from 60 countries. Current and
retired firefighters and their families can
compete in 75 events including archery,
swimming, athletics, tennis, dragonboat
racing, marathon, a fire truck challenge
and the highlight event, the toughest fire-
Korean sports such as taekwondo and
ssi-reum (Korean wrestling) also feature.
The Games were first set up by
Australian firefighters and have grown in
importance over the years. Games have
been held in the United States, South
Africa, Canada, France, England, China
and Australia (in 1994).
